Ecophilosphy

The term was coined in Norway in the late 1960s, by a small group of philosophers and rock climbers with philosophy professor Arne Næss at the forefront. They questioned the rapid modernization of society and argued that "free nature" had its own worth and must be preserved. They also felt that human beings must reconnect with nature in order to have a good life. The thoughts were the foundation of the Norwegian environmental movement. Since then, the concept of eco-philosophy has been broadened and also questioned. There is no unambiguous definition today, but one basic idea is that the division between man and nature is incorrect. In fact, eco-philosphers believe that everything and everyone belong together. Ecology can help us understand the context and philosophy can help us understand human relationships with nature, and how we can better take care of nature - and thus also ourselves.
