Performance Days 2024: Leading the way in textile sustainability innovations

As the premier trade fair for functional fabrics, Performance Days 2024 will once again highlight the latest sustainable developments, including advancements in dyeing processes and footwear technologies, providing insight into the future of textile production.

Performance Days, the leading trade fair for functional fabrics and accessories, will take place on October 23-24, 2024, in Munich. Known for showcasing the latest innovations in performance fabrics, the event brings together designers, product managers, and manufacturers to explore the future of textiles.

One of the major highlights at this year’s event is the focus on sustainable dyeing processes. Under the theme “Colorization – Chemistry is Everywhere,” the fair will spotlight innovations aimed at reducing the environmental impact of traditional dyeing methods. Exhibitors will present technologies that minimize water and chemical usage, for example, along with natural, biodegradable dyes that enhance sustainability efforts in the fashion and sports sectors. Additionally, the Footwear Forum will debut its focus on lower-impact waterproof shoe manufacturing. New materials, like biodegradable membranes and plant-based coatings, will be explored as alternatives to conventional waterproofing methods.

Navigating to the latest sustainability innovations

Attendees looking for the latest developments in textiles sustainability should make their way to the Trend Forum, located in Hall A2. This space will feature in-depth presentations of the latest sustainable fabrics and technologies, along with best-practice examples from companies that have successfully implemented improved processes. The Sustainability Lounge, meanwhile, provides a dedicated area for networking and discussion on sustainability projects, offering a platform to exchange ideas and discover the most innovative materials.

For a guided experience, visitors can join one of the many tours. Alexa Dehmel, a performance apparel expert, will lead tours through the Trend Forum, showcasing sustainable fabric innovations and accessory developments.

Sustainability-themed workshops and expert talks

A variety of workshops and expert talks are scheduled, many of which will address topics that deal with textiles sustainability. Workshops hosted by Accelerating Circularity, for example, will address the role of chemical legislation in transitioning to a circular economy, while other sessions will focus on the impact of upcoming EU regulations. Expert panels featuring industry leaders such as Charles Ross from the Royal College of Art and Katy Stevens from the European Outdoor Group will explore the relationship between chemical management and climate strategies.

Additionally, Dr. Kelly Sheridan of the Microfibre Consortium will discuss innovations in reducing fiber fragmentation, and Rannveig van Iterson, Head of Circularity at Ohana Public Affairs, will address questions on how fabric designers and producers should prepare for upcoming EU legislation relevant to textiles.

Performance Days 2024 promises to once again deliver not just products, but actionable insights into the future of more sustainable textile production.
