EOCA planted 2 million trees

Project Success!

“Imagine if trees gave off wi-fi signals – we wouldn’t be able to plant them quickly enough. Too bad they only produce the oxygen we need.” – The Internet.  Well, the EOCA just planted 2,081,276 trees in two years. Take that Internet.

In celebration of having raised and funded €2 Million of conservation projects since its founding in 2006, The European Outdoor Conservation Association launched its legacy 2 Million Tree Project at OutDoor in 2016. Now, less than two years later, EOCA proudly announced that the target has already been surpassed with the planting of 2,081,276 trees.

The projects have included rewilding projects in countries like Scotland, Spain and Romania, forest restoration in Kenya, Malawi, Borneo, Uganda and India, and replanting mangroves in Madagascar and Indonesia. The benefits that will reaped from these trees are many:

Climate change mitigation: One mature tree can sequester one tonne of CO2 each year

Soil stability: Tree roots stabilize slopes and protect coastlines

Habitat: They provide homes for a vast range of biodiversity

Beauty: Because really, who enjoys walking through a clear-cut?

Several other EOCA members like The North Face, Lowa, Nikwax, Marmot and KEEN have also been planting trees on their own accord. While EOCA’s target may be met earlier than expected, they are not taking the rest of the day off (so to speak) and have plenty more tree planting projects in the pipeline.
