Kids outdoor brand collection takes on ocean-bound plastic

Isbjörn of Sweden continues ambitious sustainability pledge for FW23 season with new Exclusive Collection featuring PrimaLoft Insulation with OceanCycle certified plastic.

The premium outdoor kids brand Isbjörn of Sweden continues its ambitious sustainability pledge and strong partnership with PrimaLoft for Fall/Winter 2023 with a new range of padded products that use PrimaLoft’s new insulation with Ocean Bound plastic.

Maria Frykman, CEO of Isbjörn of Sweden, explains:

“As we strive to become fully circular by 2030 and a Net Zero company by 2045 at the latest, part of our journey is working closely with suppliers such as PrimaLoft to ensure our products include the most sustainable materials and manufacturing processes. PrimaLoft® Insulation with Ocean Bound plastic is made from post-consumer recycled material that has been specifically sourced from coastal areas, helping to stop the devastating flow of plastic waste into our precious oceans.”

The collection featuring three products, based around some of Isbjörn’s best-selling styles, will be available exclusively through Isbjörn’s website and is one of the first to include PrimaLoft® Insulation with Ocean Bound Plastic, made from 100% recycled content with 60% sourced from coastal areas.

As with the original styles, these long-lasting ‘slow fashion’ garments are designed to provide children with maximum cold weather protection, to keep them safe and comfortable as they enjoy outdoor activities. With grow cuffs on arms and legs, which can be extended by up to 3cm, children can get more than one season’s enjoyment from the garments before handing down to younger siblings or friends.

OceanCycle certified

PrimaLoft® Insulation with Ocean Bound plastic is certified by OceanCycle, which ensures the material’s proximity to coastlines, ethical sourcing and end-to-end traceability – all documented from collection through to manufacturing.

Mike Joyce, president and CEO, PrimaLoft says:

“Our close relationship with Isbjörn spans many years, and our brands share a commitment to producing high-performing products while reducing environmental impact, wherever possible. PrimaLoft® Ocean Bound Insulation uses recycled plastic sourced from coastal areas. We have developed a solution that meets our industry-leading performance standards, and also helps to combat the issue of plastic waste in our oceans. We are excited for Isbjörn to be one of the first brands to utilize this technology, debuting in its Fall/Winter 2023 collection.”

Isbjörn of Sweden’s collection, featuring SeaLion, Puffin and Snowball, will be available exclusively from www.isbjornofsweden.com from September 2023.

About Isbjörn

Isbjörn of Sweden was founded in 2005 by Maria Frykman Forsberg and Camilla Schmidt, after they became mothers for the first time and discovered a gap in the market for high quality and comfortable outdoor garments for children.  The brand believes that all children are ‘Multisporters by Nature’ and should be allowed to enjoy outdoor activities in all weather conditions, while remaining warm, dry and comfortable.

Isbjörn of Sweden garments use the most sustainable materials and the company continuously strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible, while still producing long lasting, tough and premium quality garments which emulate adult styles and materials.

The brand is symbolised by the Polar Bear – the toughest animal on the planet.

Sustainability Pledge 2022

Our sustainability road map is clearly set and as a team we’re committed to becoming fully circular by 2030, going completely microplastic-free by 2026 and achieving Net Zero by latest 2045.
